Aluminum extrusion lends itself well to structural applications due to aluminum’s excellent strength to weight ratio, and the ability to design specific geometry into the profile which can enhance these properties. Many such shapes include hollow sections for strength and T-slots for linear hardware anchoring, screw bosses for fasteners, etc. Alloy selection is also critical in designing structural components. 6005, 6061 are common selctions in the 6000 series, as well as “hard alloys” or “aircraft” alloys in the 7000 and 2000 series.
